A video intercom answers the one question that matters at the front door. Installed properly it also photographs whoever rang while you were out.
What an intercom install includes
- Video panel at the entry
- Wide-angle lens so a person standing to the side is still in frame, with infrared so it works at night.
- Monitors where you actually are
- Kitchen and main bedroom in a house. Reception and back office in a business. One monitor at the front door is not much use.
- Answer from your phone
- Take the call when you are not home, and let a delivery driver leave a parcel in the right spot instead of taking it back to the depot.
- Snapshot on missed calls
- The panel captures who rang when nobody answered, so an unexplained knock at 11pm is not a mystery.
- Gate and door release
- Release a gate or strike from the handset, so you are not walking down a driveway in the rain.
- Runs alongside the CCTV
- The intercom camera can record to the same system, so the doorstep is covered by both.
Questions we get asked
Can it work with an existing gate motor?
In most cases we can wire the release into the existing motor. We confirm the make on site.
Wired or wireless?
Wired where we can run cable, because it does not drop out. Wireless where the run is impractical, with the trade-offs explained first.
Does it work in an apartment block?
Building intercom work needs the strata's approval and often the existing riser. We deal with that regularly. Start with a call.
How much does a video intercom cost installed?
Our intercom kits start at $699 + GST installed, for a single entry panel with one internal monitor. The cost climbs with each extra monitor, with gate release wiring, and with how far the cable has to travel from the gate to the house. A long driveway is often the biggest line on the quote. We look at the run before pricing it rather than quoting a panel and discovering the trench afterwards.
