A bullet CCTV camera mounted on the wall of a commercial building at night

CCTV installation in Sydney

Most CCTV disappoints for the same two reasons: the camera was pointed at the wrong place, and the night image was never tested. We aim and focus every camera on site after dark before we call the job finished.

What a CCTV install includes

Cameras chosen per position
Dome cameras where the housing needs to resist a knock, bullet cameras where reach matters, varifocal where you need to frame a specific gate or till.
Infrared tested after dark
We come back at night, or stay until it is dark, and adjust each camera until the image is usable. Daylight-only commissioning is why so much CCTV is useless.
Recording sized to how far back you need to look
We ask how many days of footage you want kept, then size the recorder for it. Seven days and thirty days are very different machines.
Motion-triggered recording and alerts
Record on movement to stretch storage, with alert zones drawn so a passing car does not fill your phone with notifications.
Remote viewing on your phone
Set up on your devices before we leave, and we show you how to pull and export a clip, the thing you will need under pressure.
Cabling run properly
Conduit where it is exposed, cable rated for the run, terminations that will not corrode. It is the part nobody sees and the part that fails first when it is done badly.

Questions we get asked

How much does CCTV installation cost in Sydney?

Our four camera kits start at $1,999 + GST supplied and installed, and eight camera kits start at $3,200 + GST. What moves the number from there is mostly cable, not cameras: a single-storey house with an accessible roof space is a different job to a double-storey with a tiled roof or a warehouse with a six-metre ceiling. A starting price assumes the easy version, so we walk the site, price the actual runs, and the quote is the price. The visit costs nothing.

Is it better to have wired or wireless security cameras?

Wired, wherever we can run the cable. A wired camera gets power and data down one lead, does not drop out, and does not need its battery changed on a ladder. Wireless earns its place when the run is genuinely impractical: a detached garage, a heritage facade, a rental you cannot drill. We will tell you which one your site is, and we will not sell you wireless because it is quicker for us to install.

Can CCTV cameras work without internet?

Yes. The cameras record to a recorder on site, and that keeps working with the internet down, the NBN out, or no connection at all. What you lose without internet is remote viewing on your phone and off-site backup. The footage is still there, you just have to be at the recorder to get it. For most homes that is an acceptable fallback rather than a reason to avoid it.

Do security cameras record audio?

They can, and in New South Wales you need to be careful about it. Recording a private conversation you are not part of is an offence under the Surveillance Devices Act, and that applies at your own front door as much as anywhere. We usually set cameras to video only, and where audio is genuinely wanted, say a shop counter or a reception desk, we talk through signage and consent before we enable it.

How many cameras do I need?

Fewer than most quotes suggest. Entry points and the approach to them do the real work. We would rather put four cameras in the right places than eight in easy ones.

Can I keep my existing cameras?

If they are analogue and still producing a workable image we can often keep them on a hybrid recorder while you replace them over time.

Will the footage hold up if I need it?

That depends on resolution at the distance involved. We tell you at quote stage what each camera will and will not let you identify.
